A new sense of showmanship swept London Fashion Week for the spring ’17 collections. And many new formats heightened the emphasis on footwear.
Case in point: Charlotte Olympia pulled out all the stops for a Brazilian carnival-theme romp and proved that the runway can shine a spotlight on shoes with the help of some clever choreography. Malone Souliers and Sophia Webster also brought an out-of-the-box approach to their respective presentations, which also featured models and elements of movement.
Burberry pressed reset and moved to an in-season buy-now, wear-now model, which elevated its updated cut-out heeled hikers and Chelsea boots as key items from the collection.
Other standouts included Mulberry’s recovered cool courtly mules, as well as Erdem’s coordinated collection of matching shoes and dresses that hovered just slightly above.
