Tabitha Simmons looked up for spring ’17 design inspiration. The designer referenced hot air balloons for the season, specifically taking cues from vintage paintings of them. The result was a strappy stiletto style with flora embroidery.
“The collection was inspired by old paintings of hot air balloons from the 1800s,” said the designer. “There was something so magical about the idea of traveling in one over the English countryside in the summer.”
Last season, Simmons took inspiration from Art Nouveau and the Victorian era. “I love that era because it’s romantic,” Simmons told Footwear News. “It’s in the vein of the era, but still in the spirit of our brand.” The collection included floral print sandals, velvet Mary Janes and boots with broguing.
This week, 18 leading designers shared sketches from their spring ’17 collections. The inspirations were wide and varied, including a Steven Meisel image spurred a Casadei gladiator boot and the stylish Palm Springs inspired a Bionda Castana mule.
