Saint Laurent: Hedi Slimane Still At Creative Helm

After a report surfaced today that Hedi Slimane is departing Saint Laurent, the fashion house has this afternoon denied the move. “Hedi Slimane has not left Saint Laurent,” a spokeswoman said in an email to Footwear News shortly shortly before 4PM.

Daily Front Row reported that Slimane had exited Saint Laurent over the holidays due to creative differences.

Slimane, who joined the house in 2012, has been one of the most buzzed-about designers ever since while dramatically overhauling the brand — starting with changing its name from Yves Saint Laurent to simply Saint Laurent.

The buzz comes after a year of major changes at renowned French fashion houses, from Lanvin to Christian Dior to Balenciaga.

In October, longtime Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz left his position as creative chief of the French fashion label. Elbaz had led design at Lanvin for 14 years. He split with the house after creative differences between executives and the designer came to a head.

That same month, Christian Dior and Raf Simons parted ways, and earlier in the season, it was announced that Alexander Wang was splitting with Balenciaga.

With the next round of ready-to-wear shows set to kick off with men’s collections this month and women’s in February, many observers are betting that more moves are on the way.
