For fall ’16, high-end men’s designers experimented with different heel heights. It was a trend we saw at Saint Laurent and Hood By Air. Therefore, I enlisted three standout styles and tried them on for size: Givenchy’s velvet boots, Laurence Dacade’s metallic boots and Christian Louboutin’s lace-up oxfords.
All three had similar heel heights, but different feels. The Cuban heel on the Givenchy style feels quite sturdy and like I wasn’t wearing a heel at all. Christian Louboutin’s style was also quite comfy. I could envision it being worn to a more formal event.
Laurence Dacade’s style was a bit tougher to navigate, but that was mainly due to the sample being a size too small. Still, the metallic colorway is definitely something I’m lusting over — and I encourage men to take the risk.
Overall, I would recommend starting off with a smaller heel (two inches, or three max) to get comfortable with the trend. And stick with a simple black leather or tan suede.
