Manolo Blahnik’s Instagram is always full of scintillating shoe shots — and this week, the designer let fans in on some #excitingnews.
A series of posts refers to an “iconic marble floor,” and “beadle entrance” seems to indicate that the designer’s new store in London’s famed Burlington Arcade is set to open soon.
Blahnik’s new location will be a double-fronted unit, located at the Burlington Gardens entrance close to Bond Street, according to Thor Equities, a top European real estate developer that acquired Burlington Arcade in 2010. The company embarked on an ambitious reinvention project, installed a new floor and roof and unveiled new uniforms for the “Beadles,” the development’s private police force.
“The luxury retail market is a competitive space and it is important that the Burlington Arcade evolves to ensure it maintains its prominent position in the sector,” said Markus Meijer, CEO of Meyer Bergman, when the project was announced last December. “It’s a careful balancing act of maintaining individual and stand-alone stores and also introducing new retailers that complement our vision.”
Blahnik, who unveiled men’s last year, has been strengthening his retail presence in a variety of ways. After opening a large shop-in-shop at Harrods Shoe Heaven floor in 2014, he opened another in-store boutique at Saks Fifth Avenue’s New York flagship last year.
