5 Shoes Ricky Gervais Should Wear To Host The Golden Globes

With the 2016 Golden Globes quickly approaching on Sunday, Jan. 10, celebrity stylists are hard at work finalizing their clients’ looks for the red carpet. But what about the men in attendance? Typically, we end up seeing a lot of too-safe black dress shoes, and we’ve decided to do something about it.

In light of Ricky Gervais assuming his hosting duties once again, we’ve chosen five standout styles he should wear while hosting. Yes, costume changes would be required, but that goes with the gig.

See our five choices below:

1. Colored leather laceup
A modern update to the laceup dress shoe? Gervais should try a colored leather style. Berluti’s ultra-luxe red laceup with contrasting sole is the perfect shoe to stand out in a crowd without being overtly flashy.

2. Sleek Chelsea boot
Dress boots are increasingly popping up in designers’ collections. Jimmy Choo’s patent boot with metal studding is perfect for an evening event and could easily be paired with any style of suit.

3. Embellished smoking slipper
If Gervais plans to wear a tux, an embellished smoking slipper would be the perfect companion. The style is a bit harder to pull off — the pant leg has to be slim, but not too slim — but the end result is well worth it.

4. Tri-tone brogue
While men are often afraid of color in their shoes, we have a feeling Gervais would be willing to take the risk. Salvatore Ferragamo’s tri-tone brogue offers the right amount of color punch but isn’t overwhelming.

5. Printed suede boot
The Golden Globes are supposed to be the least formal of all the awards shows, so more casual option for Gervais could be John Varvatos’ striped suede boots, which offer just enough visual interest to add some kick to an outfit. Plus, he can wear them to the after-party.
