For its annual Métiers d’Art fashion show, Chanel brought things home to Paris’ Ritz Hotel in the city’s Place Vendôme.
The house staged three performances today, and guests were invited to have lunch, afternoon tea and dinner at the fabled hotel, while models including Cara Delevingne, Lily Rose Depp, Sofia Richie, Alice Dellal, Lottie Moss, Georgia May Jagger and Mariacarla Boscono sashayed amongst them. Even Pharrell Williams walked in the show.
The show’s tongue-in-cheek title, “Paris Cosmopolite,” looked to the glory days of the city and its famous café society with key footwear styles recalling the Thirties and Forties. White patent shoe-boots – a new twist on the Chanel brogue – came with contrast black laces, and heels bore gentle hourglass silhouettes.
There were also round-toed Mary Janes in metallic gold (practically lost amidst the swirling patterns of the carpet), plus a rather more-contemporary iteration with clear Perspex detailing and Plexiglas heels. Fashion’s current love affair with the thigh-high boot was also evident, as seen in delicate versions in rose-colored suede with a patchwork effect reminiscent of cross-hatched ribbon.
The staging looked to the history of the brand. Gabrielle Coco Chanel herself actually lived in a suite at the Paris Ritz for 37 years. The hotel still boasts a refurbished suite dedicated to the house’s esteemed doyenne. This Paris edition of Métiers d’Art follows past shows in locations including Rome, Salzburg, Dallas, Edinburgh, Dubai and New York.
