Manolo Blahnik has been designing shoes for 40 years, but he’s not slowing down anytime soon. This year, he teamed with Rihanna on a capsule collection and worked with rising fashion label Vetements on dramatic boots. In recognition, Blahnik ranked No. 10 on Footwear News’ Power 100 list — out today — of the footwear industry’s most influential players.
Still, his classic shoes continue to be incredibly popular, especially among the celebrity set. Blahnik has long had the stamp of approval from Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who wears Blahnik’s simple strappy sandals for nearly every occasion.
Even first lady Michelle Obama trusts the designer, wearing his heels during the Canadian and Singapore state visits at the White House earlier this year. As for Hollywood’s leading ladies, Sarah Jessica Parker — whose character on the hit TV series “Sex and the City” was also a Blahnik fan — has worn heels by the designer for several Met Galas.
Beyoncé favors Blahnik’s edgier styles, such as his BB Pumps in bright pink patent leather and his Chaos sandals with a chain strap. Rihanna, of course, often wears shoes from her Denim Deserts collaboration with Blahnik, including a pair of dramatic denim chap boots. At the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, she opted for Blahnik’s embellished mules.
