The fashion on “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” is just as quirky as its cast.
After spending 15 years trapped in an Indiana bunker, the eponymous character left behind her booties and hightailed it to New York City — in light-up “Twinkle Toes” Skechers in Season 1.
For its second act on Netflix (the show has been renewed for Season 3), the affable mole woman played by Ellie Kemper continues to stick to her whimsical girl-next-door style.
The show, created by Tina Fey, is nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, among other honors —including acting nods for Kemper and co-star Tituss Burgess — at the Primetime Emmy Awards, airing Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. ET on ABC.
Here, we take a look some of Kimmy’s best footwear moments.
Titus Andromedon (Burgess) fulfilled his “pact” as Kimmy’s gay roommate by giving her a head-to-toe makeover, including a pair of nude pumps that he covered in gold glitter. He explains: “I knew this day would come. I must make you over. It is the pact between my kind and yours, and in exchange, you buy us brunch sometimes.”
One of the biggest stars of the show is Kimmy’s “Twinkle Toes” Skechers sneakers. The children’s light-up kicks serve as an apt metaphor for a girl who was locked underground at age 14 for 15 years.
Kimmy rocks Swedish Hasbeens sandals in bright yellow for a date, and on another episode, she went on a shopping adventure wearing the same style in red. The wooden clogs feature a 3.25-inch block heel and leather upper.
For dressy occasions, Kimmy’s go-to shoe style is a pair of chic flats. She has worn the footwear while stomping around Manhattan to run errands for socialite Jacqueline Voorhees (Jane Krakowski), and on special occasions.
Kimmy dons a pair of coral oxfords with her color-coordinated wardrobe while taking a GED course.
