Girl power! The Spice Girls, who recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of their smash single “Wannabe,” are the undefeated style icons of the 1990s — not to mention the original trendsetters for platform boots.
This resort ’17 season, the group’s influence was more apparent than ever, with designers embracing seriously major platforms and rainbow colorways. (With a hinted group reunion in the works, the hype is real.)
Below are seven resort looks inspired by Spice Girls fashion:
Alessandro Michele’s quirky Gucci vision continued with a number of Spice Girls-esque looks. The collection included Union Jack loafers (Ginger Spice much?) and striped flatform sneakers, a style often worn by Baby Spice. Bonus points for the shaggy fur coats and tube socks.
Riccardo Tisci debuted lace-up boxer boots with platform wedge heels. We can’t help but think of Ginger Spice’s iconic Union Jack dress look, styled with red patent boots.
The designer unleashed his wild side with leopard print boots and dazzling metallics, a look that undoubtedly screams Scary Spice at the 1997s VMAs.
Jewel tones? Check. Lace-up flatforms? Check. Miu Miu’s resort collection screams the early Spice Girls days, even down to the kitschy posing.
Scary Spice loved her a 1970s-style boot. Her patchwork style, worn below, is the perfect match to Roberto Cavalli’s patched denim boots.
The Spice Girls loved themselves a color-blocked moment. Giamba’s resort collection modernized the look but kept its bubblegum pop spirit.
