Did Queen Elizabeth Start The Horsebit Loafer Shoe Trend?

The horsebit loafer trend is hotter than ever — thanks in large part to Gucci’s major resurgence. But it turns out that another unexpected influencer might have also helped drive the craze: Queen Elizabeth II, who celebrates her 90th birthday on Thursday.

For more than five decades, the monarch has been wearing custom-made loafers by West London shoemaker Anello & Davide, one of the few brands she has trusted over the years.

Meanwhile, Gucci has had a major street style hit on its hands with the loafers, seen on both men and women. The house racked up notable buzz for a fur style, offered in both a loafer and slide and featuring Gucci’s signature horse bit detail. Perhaps Alessandro Michele and Gucci had a few photos of the Queen on their mood boards?
