The Duke of Cambridge, better known as Prince William, doesn’t often get to dress down. After all, he is second in line to the throne.
Whether he’s hosting dignitaries at Kensington Palace or celebrating his grandmother Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday, William is most often in black dress shoes. But in celebration of his 34th birthday, Footwear News is taking a look at some of his more casual shoe moments.
In April, William and his wife, Kate Middleton, went on an official trip to India and Bhutan. The couple did much more than just wine and dine while there, requiring William to bring an array of footwear options.
For a hike up to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan, he wore a pair of hiking boots, and Middleton wore Penelope Chilvers knee-high boots. We’ve also seen William in snow boots while on a ski vacation with his family.

William enjoys playing polo with brother Prince Harry, so naturally riding boots are a key style in his off-duty wardrobe.

We’ve even seen him playing on a grass field in black socks.

Meanwhile, Middleton doesn’t often get to swap her L.K. Bennett or Gianvito Rossi pumps for more leisurely styles, but she has proven her ability to run in heels on multiple occasions.
