Talk about ending on the right note.

First lady Michelle Obama and President Barack Obama hosted their final state dinner at the White House on Tuesday evening, honoring Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife, Agnese Landini.

In a nod to Italian designers, the first lady wore a custom rose gold Versace gown. On her Instagram, designer Donatella Versace wrote, “I am humbled and honored to have had the opportunity to dress the first lady of the United States, Michelle Obama. Thank you, Michelle, for all the things you have done for America and for the world, and especially, for empowering and inspiring women everywhere.”

While we’re not sure who designed Obama’s shoes, we do know that she wore a pair of satin ankle-strap, kitten-heel sandals that peeked out occasionally when she walked. Comfortable but stylish heels are a must for the first lady. At a recent event in Los Angeles, Spanx founder Sara Blakely recalled that Mrs. Obama allowed her to take off her Christian Louboutin heels at an event at the White House.

“I waited in the line so long that by the time I finally got up to Michelle Obama, I literally burst out, ‘My feet are killing me,’ and she goes, ‘Girl, my feet are killing me, too.’ “
