He told Variety, “I don’t think I’m Billy Crystal. I don’t think I’m Ellen (DeGeneres) or Whoopi (Goldberg). So I approach it from a place of humility, where I know the show isn’t about me, it’s about the artists and them having a great moment, and I’m there as a fan enjoying the ride. I just try to soak up the atmosphere, like a fly on the wall who has to talk every now and then.”
This year, the Grammy Awards will air live for the first time coast-to-coast. Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Pitbull, Adele, Little Big Town and Kendrick Lamar are scheduled to perform. Lamar leads the pack in nominations for the 2016 Grammy Awards. The rapper earned 11 nominations, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Rap Album. During the 2015 Grammys, Lamar took home the awards for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.
Outside of his hosting duties, LL is no stranger to the Grammys. In 1992, the rapper won Best Rap Solo Performance for “Mama Said Knock You Out” and again in 1997 for “Hey Lover.”
He has been in the entertainment business since 1985, the year he released his first album. Back then, the rapper made the Kangol bucket hat famous — along with Adidas Superstars and thick gold chains.
LL slowly morphed his image from MC to movie star in films like “Deep Blue Sea,” “Any Given Sunday,” “S.W.A.T.” and “Last Holiday.” His shoe style ranged from Nike Air Force 1s on the red carpet to Giuseppe Zanotti and Gucci.
Today, LL stars on CBS’s “NCIS: Los Angeles” and hosts the newly popular show “Lip Sync Battle.” To see his shoe style evolution, click through the gallery below.
