Dressing up to go out for one’s 21st birthday is a common rite of passage, but Kendall Jenner’s birthday look was more than just a dress — it had a hidden message.
The model wore a plunging glitter minidress with an open back that was made by designer Antoine Salameh of Labourjoisie, but it bore a close resemblance to the dress another very famous reality star wore on her 21st birthday.
Paris Hilton donned a nearly identical dress to her party in 2002. Jenner even wore a necklace similar to Hilton’s, but she completed her barely-there look with a pair of Yeezy Season 2 clear sandals.
While Salameh says that Jenner wanted to channel the 1920s with her dress, Jenner posted an Instagram today acknowledging that she was channeling Hilton’s look.
Salameh told WWD that he has a longstanding relationship with Jenner’s stylist Monica Rose.
“[Jenner] can dance the night away in it. I’ve always wanted to dress Kendall,” Salameh said. “I’ve had the pleasure of dressing her sisters, and she’s always been on the top of my wish list. I am excited to dress her for such a grand occasion as her 21st birthday.”
Before the party, Jenner and friends had dinner at Catch restaurant, where she wore a Julien Macdonald jumpsuit and Dsquared2 lace-up sandals.
Jenner’s friend Hailey Baldwin opted for a pair of thigh-high boots. Other guests included sisters Kylie Jenner, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, as well as Kaia Gerber.
After the party, Jenner changed into a pair of more comfortable white sneakers to head home.
