For luxury handbag label Nancy Gonzalez’s first foray into shoes, president and creative director Santiago Barberi Gonzalez already has a fantasy first customer in mind.
“My favorite movie scene is in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ where she says, ‘Where’s my crocodile shoe?’ ” he recalled of Audrey Hepburn’s iconic 1961 film while at Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills last week, when customers were able to view samples of his new shoe collection and place orders for November delivery.
The range features pumps, sandals and flats — all crocodile skin — in several colors. Retail partners include Neiman Marcus Palm Beach, Harrods and Bergdorff Goodman, which will all have the collection in stores by December.
Although Barberi Gonzalez isn’t playing favorites among his designs, he praised his kitten heels’ versatility. “Anyone of any age can wear it,” he said. “It has to be timeless enough, but fashion enough. Timeless has to be relevant of the moment, too, and the crocodile is what makes them more fantastic. You can wear it with skinny jeans, on the plane or at night. Our proposal is: What is the perfect 50mm pump? It’s perfect — It’s so Holly Golightly.”
