13 Times Celebrities Showed Their Love for Chanel Ballet Flats

At today’s spring ’17 Chanel presentation in Paris, designer Karl Lagerfeld reframed the brand’s signature flats as an oh-so-modern perforated bootie and also honored the classic look with subtle new colorways.

Since the luxury brand introduced its cap-toe ballet flat in the late 1950s, it has become a perennial favorite among the fashion elite. The casual look was initially conceived as a beige slingback with a black toe cap to give the illusion of a smaller shoe size and longer legs.

Over the years, though, it’s been imagined in an array of different leathers, suedes and exotic skins, as well as colorful tweeds inspired by Coco Chanel’s elegant suiting.

The shoe’s casually ladylike styling has attracted a bevy of famous fans, including actresses such as Emma Stone and Zooey Deschanel, and top fashion models Kate Upton and Victoria’s Secret Angel Elsa Hosk.
