Net-A-Porter’s Senior Style Editor Tracy Taylor is predicting top trends and standout shoe brands likely to make a red carpet appearance tonight during the 88th Annual Academy Awards.
From awards circuit regulars Christian Louboutin and Jimmy Choo to newer players like Sophia Webster and Gianvito Rossi, Taylor gives FN the shoe scoops.
What are the biggest trends for footwear you hope to see on the Oscar’s red carpet?
“Platforms were a huge trend from the runway this season, and are certainly suitable for the red carpet this weekend. They’e not only in fashion, but they’re also comfortable so it’s nice that there is finally a fashion choice that supports that for Hollywoods longest awards night. I’m also hoping to see a lot go metallics on Sunday night. They’re incredibly chic and a great alternative to black – makes me think of Scorsese’s new Vinyl TV series that nods the 70’s music scene. Silver is the metallic of the moment with stellar looks from brands such as Gianvito Rossi, Aquazzura and Tom Ford.”
What shoe brands are you expecting the biggest celebrities to wear?
“Without a doubt, we’ll see the red soles of Christian Louboutin on Sunday as he’s a crowd favorite. I’m also expecting to see a lot of Jimmy Choo.”
Which star has had the best style evolution?
“Brie Larson far and away has had the most profound style evoloution since being catapulted into the spotlight due to her performance in Room. Her transformation is a winning combination of her risk taking attitude and her stylist Cristina Ehlich’s great taste.”
What unexpected shoe designer do you hope to see worn by a star?
“I am loving what Tom Ford is doing in RTW and shoes. There is nobody who does elevated, sharp, red carpet glamour better than Tom. I’m also hoping that Gianvito Rossi gets more exposure this season. Red carpet footwear can be a bit boring, but his designs along with Giuseppe Zanotti and Sophia Webster can really help a gown stand out.”
