Paul Andrew walked away a big winner at one of fashion’s biggest nights: the CFDA Awards. The designer was honored with the Swarovski Award for Accessory Design.
Andrew was announced as the recipient at the New York City ceremony held at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Monday night. The designer attended with star guest Jessica Chastain, who wore custom Paul Andrew black satin sandals.
Here, the designer talks to FN about the award — from his reaction to standout moments of the night.
What was your reaction when you won? “It was a really overwhelming feeling of excitement, gratitude and surprise when they announced my name. I was up against Gigi and Aurora, who are both friends and so talented. The award could so easily have gone to either of them.”
Your favorite part of the evening? “Winning the award was a highlight, but celebrating with friends and my gorgeous date, Jessica Chastain, at the after-party was something I’ll never forget.”
What does this honor mean for your brand? “It’s a real stamp of approval. If you look at the winners in years past, it’s a who’s who of American fashion. Being inducted into that legacy is an exceptional feeling, but it’s also a really big responsibility. There are some pretty big shoes to fill, excuse my pun!”
How did you celebrate after? “Champagne and laughter at the after-party with friends.”
