This week, FN’s sneaker columnist Stacey Griffith — senior master instructor at SoulCycle and avid sneakerhead — opts for punchy Balenciaga sneakers. See her thoughts on the high-top style below:
“This week, my sneaker pick is the Balenciaga Monochrome high-top in red. I’m not a cross-body girl or a Celine-wearing Upper East Sider… But I am a high-top-wearing tomboy from California.
The thing I absolutely go crazy for is a Balenciaga high-top, and for many reasons. First of all, anything made in Spain is just “squad” material, meaning everything about this shoe is on the money and it should be worn by everyone you roll with. This shoe has the best leather, the best texture, the best placement of the eyelets, and the toe box is not pointy (which, as you know if you follow my column, I strongly dislike).
The best way to make sure you are comfortable in this shoe before you wear it to a Knicks game or out and about? Throw on a really heavy sock and bend the toes back and forth in a crouched-down position. This will loosen up the leather and ensure a comfortable first week in them.
I will definitely be rocking these with some Balmain jeans and a solid red IRO tee — and oh, yes…a red monogrammed Goyard messenger bag will be coming down today!”
