Athletic retailer Foot Locker Inc. said today it would continue its educational program with Pensole Footwear Design Academy with the goal of nurturing aspiring sneaker designers.
In a joint statement, the New York-based retailer said it would help young, talented Pensole students through two master classes and the World Sneaker Championships, which begin on Feb. 5 and will include 64 designs. (The winning style will be sold at select Foot Locker stores.)
“We’re excited to continue our partnership with the Pensole Footwear Design Academy to encourage the next generation of sneaker designers and further advance innovation in the sneaker business,” said Stacy Cunningham, EVP of marketing for Foot Locker, in the statement. “With this year’s new courses, we hope to inspire footwear designers from across the globe to create some of the industry’s most innovative sneakers, available exclusively at Foot Locker.”
The first master class, called Fueling the Future of Footwear, begins today through a partnership with Under Armour. As part of the class, students will be challenged to create a new lifestyle sneaker for the Baltimore-based company.
The second set of classes, which begin later this spring, are with Asics America. Similarly, students will be tasked with designing a sneaker for the running brand.
“Pensole is looking forward to another great year of working with Foot Locker to foster the future of footwear designers,” D’Wayne Edwards, Pensole’s founder, said in the statement. “This partnership offers students the chance of a lifetime and the opportunity to fulfill every designer’s dream: to create a new, innovative sneaker and have it sold at Foot Locker.”
