Leave it to Isabel Marant to take a cheap and cheerful beach shop sandal and present it as an elevated essential. That’s exactly what she did for spring ’16, twisting those ubiquitous all-over flat rope sandals one would spot at a touriaty boutique with her signature Parisian élan.
Gurkee’s (and American brand who has made the style their bread and butter) will either be pleased at the trend recognition or peeved to see their Barbados sandal be given the Marant treatment. In city-ready black, they had a certain je ne sais quoi when paired with her soft tailoring and flippy little skirts. Will this do for the rope sandal what she did for the hightop sneaker and western boot before?
The other main shoe shown was a stacked cylindrical heel sandal, featuring triple tubular ankle straps and various bits of Bohemia embellishment along the toe strap. Consider it a shoe-in.
