With only Paris Fashion Week left on the roster, Milan proved to be a tough contender to beat with its wide assortment of men’s footwear.
Prada undoubtedly stole the show with its unusual take on dress shoes. Lace-up wingtips and boots were given chunky brown or grey rubber soles, some overlaid on another black rubber sole, which gave the conservative style an unapologetic fashion edge.
Gucci was another important show for the season, as it was the first men’s show without Creative Director Frida Giannini. The footwear made a statement, taking the label’s signature horse-bit loafer and adding a fur lining that peeked out from the sides.
The mandal also proved it was here to stay for the fall season, with both No. 21 and Bally taking on the crisscross sandal (both styled with socks, no less). More season-appropriate standouts included John Varvatos’ laceless boots in leopard print and Versace’s brown leather sneakers with oversized straps.
