Russell Bateman is the star trainer behind Skinny Bitch Collective, aka SBC, London’s cultish workout method that has attracted a fashionable set to his invite-only classes and private training sessions. Devotees include models such as Suki Waterhouse, Rosie Tapner and Burberry girl Neelam Gill, plus singer Ellie Goulding and a clutch of U.K. television personalities who make it their business to be in top form while lining the front row during Fashion Week.
As FN heads to London to cover the shows (and shoes, of course), we caught up with Bateman to discuss what’s behind his punishing-yet-playful bootcamp-style workouts. He also gave up helpful sneaker and nutrition tips for (attempting) to keep fit while on the international runway circuit, should we not be able to sneak in one of his famous 7am sweat sessions.
“It’s all about being stylish, versatile and surfing that fine line between functionality, support and looking like a goddess,” he says on what he looks for in the perfect cross-training shoe. Click through for more Bateman-approved tips and an inside look at just what SBC really stands for.
