The Kansas City Royals took home the Commissioner’s Trophy as the World Series champions last night, with big help from their catcher and MVP, Salvador Perez.
The Royals beat the New York Mets 7-2 in game five of the series. During the top of the ninth inning, the Royals made a comeback after being down 0-2 to win the game, also making five runs during the 12th inning. It was the eighth game, of 11, in the postseason the Royals won from behind and the teams’ first World Series win since 1985.
Perez had an outstanding game and series for the Royals against the Mets, catching every inning in the series but the very last.
On field, Perez took some hits, including in game four, when he an errant ball went right for his chest, causing some to worry that he’d have to sit out. Perez’s performance and resilience won him big points with fans and ultimately the MVP award. Perez plays every game wearing a pair of New Balance 4040v 30 blue and gray cleats.
Venezuela-born Perez signed with the Royals at age 16 back in 2007, when he was in the rookie minor league. Perez debuted with the Kansas City Royals in 2011.
