Mario Chalmers Reveals His Shoe Habit

Miami Heat point guard Mario Chalmers shared with FN a peek at his wide-ranging footwear collection. Here, the 28-year-old Alaska native talks about his dream Jordans and designer footwear musts.

Number of pairs: 100

Brands: Balenciaga, Balmain, Christian Louboutin, Cole Haan, Del Toro, Giuseppe Zanotti, Gucci, Jordan, Lanvin, Li Ning, Louis Vuitton, Modern Vice, Nike, Prada, Spalding, Timberland

Favorite pairs: “My Air Jordans. Growing up, I would save tips from bagging groceries and sell my old sneakers to buy new Jordans. Then, I would hope that I got a pair for Christmas or my birthday. Now that I can buy my own, I like to watch my collection grow.”

Partying shoe: “I will wear a dress sneaker most times. If it’s a formal event, I have a pair of patent leather Gucci loafers that are comfortable.”

Most expensive: “Christian Louboutin black suede high-top sneaker. A stylist I know posted the shoe on his Instagram. I sent him a text and he sent me the shoe after paying the full Louboutin price.”

Least expensive: “Puma suede classic Eco. I was going to dress up as Coffee Black from the movie ‘Semi Pro,’ and the sneakers were part of the costume. Never made it to the party, but I kept the shoes and the wig.”

Sneaker greats: “I live in Miami, where it’s warm most of the time, so a light sneaker, the Nike Air Huarache, is my go-to. After that, probably an Air Max or the KDs.”

Favorite store: “It’s hard to name just one. I purchase from a variety of places. A lot of times a personal shopper will send pictures of shoes I may like and I will say yes or no.”

Favorite look on a lady: “I like a lady who can dress for the occasion. Sneakers or heels, as long as she’s comfortable.”

Shoe-shopping companion: “I do pretty well on my own with sneakers. Anything [else], I call my sister, who is my stylist when I need her to be.”

Dream style: “I was able to contribute design ideas for the Spalding Threat PE, so that shoe was close to my dream shoe. I would like to design a complete shoe, so I won’t give away all my ideas now.”
