There’s little that’s more romantic than saying “I do” under a star filled sky. Except, if a rain cloud happens to pass by, leaving behind a soggy lawn on the verge of swallowing up a pair of Christian Louboutin stilettos.
For those unpredictable acts of mother nature, FN has some fashionable ways to keep your feet above water. It was Dylan Lauren, designer Ralph Lauren’s daughter, who first got me thinking about attending my next outdoor party in wedges rather than heels.
In an exclusive interview with FN back in 2011 soon after her marriage, Dylan said her father designed both her gown and shoes. On her feet, she said, were a pair of white, high-platform wedge sandals that allowed her to stay balanced on the grassy terrain no matter what the weather conditions. And, she added, the bridal party followed suit in a version in gold.
While some may not consider wedges as sexy as a pair of heels, they need to think again. Keep in mind not every version is super-chunky. There are more delicate ways to do the silhouette with versions that are slightly pinched at the sides to those that gently taper at the back.
Wedges are also a ’40s throwback style, often worn by Hollywood’s glamour girls. With retro looks having a fashion moment, they look as right today as then, especially when you add an ankle strap and peep toe.
