Royal baby fever strikes again. As the world anxiously awaits the arrival of Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton’s second child — Kate’s due date is rumored to be today or tomorrow — we’re already thinking ahead to the baby’s shoe style.
So far, older brother George, who will turn 2 in July, has favored more classic fare, from simple leather T-bar styles to lace-up booties, by veteran British brands Early Days and Start-rite. If his new sibling is a girl, we’re hoping to see Kate step out a bit and take some fashion risks with the little one’s footwear wardrobe.
Kate already has been on a baby shoe shopping spree: Last month, she was spotted at Trotters, an upscale children’s boutique in London’s Chelsea neighborhood, where she purchased Start-rite’s Flexy-Soft Milan sneakers. Two days later, she popped into a Zara store in Kensington and picked up a pair of white-and-tan leather crib shoes for the coming baby, who will be fourth in line to the British throne.
But no matter what he or she wears, there is no doubt the newest member of the royal family will be a tiny trendsetter — not to mention retail gold — just like brother George. Already, one website devoted to following George’s every fashion move, WhatPrinceGeorgeWore.com, is planning to change its name to WhatKatesKidsWore.com when the baby finally arrives.
