AKID is busting a move.
The kids’ footwear brand, which counts trendsetter North West among its famous fans, released a must-see mini-film on its website this week featuring 8-year-old dancing sensation Aidan Prince Xiong.
Also known by the nickname Bah Boy, the tiny dancer shows off his killer moves — along with some of Akid’s stylish shoes, including the Jasper lace-up boot and the colorful Stone moccasin sneaker. The short clip, directed by fashion filmmaker Alyn Horton, takes inspiration from classic 1990s hip-hop videos, according to Ashleigh Dempster, founder of Akid.
Xiong, who has been dancing and doing gymnastics since he was 4, took the Internet by storm last year when a video of him grooving to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” went viral. His performance caught the eye of Ellen DeGeneres, who invited him to her talk show last fall. The talented youngster now stars on his own YouTube channel.
“Akid has built a customer base of incredibly stylish and talented children like Aidan,” Dempster noted. “This is the first video in a series that will feature Akid kids and their amazing hobbies and talents.”
Akid has had a wild ride since launching in March 2014. Though only a year old, the Los Angeles-based brand has already managed to nab shelf space in some of the world’s top boutiques and department stores, among them Colette in Paris, Kitson in Los Angeles, Neiman Marcus, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Lane Crawford. This summer, the brand, known for its sneakers and boots, will branch out with the debut of its first sandal style, the Aston.
