Vans Syndicate is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, releasing updated versions of its classic silhouettes. On Saturday, the brand is set to release the Andy Kessler Sk8-Hi Reissue NYC S, a shoe inspired by the NYC skateboarding legend.
The shoe will be available exclusively at select independent skateboard retailers and retail for $110.
Its upper is primarily black with white accents, with a white sole and gum bottom. The only additional color on the shoe is blue, which is featured in its laces. The blue laces are a nod to Kessler, who always used them in his shoes. Also a nod to Kessler is the shoe’s custom heel scab, which mimics the old NYC subway tokens he used as a child.
The shoe features premium full-grain leather and nubuck on its upper, Outlast temperature management linings, Ultracush HD footbeds boasting signature Syndicate 10th Anniversary artwork in gold, and its original waffle gum bottom.
The reason for the brand’s latest Kessler-inspired release, according to Vans Syndicate, was due to his community work in the 1970s and 80s to build public skate parks and inspiring locals to become a part of the New York skate scene.
The brand’s last 10th anniversary release was the Seylynn S, which was designed by fashion label OAMC’s creative director and co-founder, Luke Meier. The shoe hit stores Sept. 19 and retailed for $100.
