Puma-endorsed sprinter Usain Bolt is about to have a very busy weekend. The Jamaican athlete will celebrate his birthday and then compete in the 15th IAAF Championships in Beijing.
Bolt, who poses as a lightening bolt after a win on the track, will turn 29 on Friday.
But his celebration will be short, as he will take the track on Sunday to defend his first place finish in the 100-meter race from the 2013 IAAF Championships in Moscow. The Jamaican sprinter ran the race in 9.77 seconds in 2013, and will compete against stiff competition, including USA’s Justin Gatlin, whose best 100-meter time is 9.74 seconds.
Puma released the Ignite this year, the training shoe of Bolt. The sneaker features the brand’s responsive Ignite foam, designed for rebound and comfort, and its ForEverFoam compound in the shoe’s heel for durability.
“Training every day is pretty tough,” Bolt said in a statement in February. “I start out with a running shoe to warm up before going into a spike, and I need a shoe that is comfortable and keeps my energy up. I love Ignite for that, and can feel it make a real difference. It’s a pretty good looking shoe as well.”
