Baltimore-based athletic brand Under Armour announced its new partnership with USA Boxing, outfitting the teams with footwear and apparel.
The brand signed a six year deal with USA Boxing, which will have the Youth, Junior Olympic and Elite teams wearing Under Armour products. The entire team will be outfitted in the brand, including training and competition footwear and apparel, and will wear Under Armour throughout the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo, respectively.
To better cater to boxers, Under Armour created its newest boxing shoe, the UA ClutchFit Title Hunter, which uses the brand ‘s UA ClutchFit technology for better flexibility and support.
“This partnership reflects the multitude of core values that Under Armour shares with USA Boxing, including passion, integrity and will. Both our organizations exist to make all athletes better” said Peter Murray, VP of global brand and sports marketing at Under Armour
Although the boxers will be wearing the brand’s footwear, ring-ready shoes won’t be available to the public as they are currently exclusive to the team.
Under Armour will also host USA Boxing’s second Trials Qualifying event September 7-12 in Baltimore.
The brand is no stranger to the sport, as it has been the longtime sponsor of Mexican boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez. Members of the USA Boxing team members first wore the brand’s footwear and uniforms in competition at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada this past weekend.
