Baltimore-based athletic brand Under Armour announced partnerships with the German-based soccer club FC St. Pauli and the Austria Ski Team at an event hosted at their new Munich office. The deal with FC St. Pauli is new, while the deal with the Austria Ski Team is an extension.
The new partnership with FC St. Pauli, according to the brand, is a multi-year official technical sponsorship that will start in July 2016 and have the club’s senior team and youth academy teams (the club’s local community in Hamburg) in game day and training kits designed and manufactured by the brand.
The brand also announced a two-year extension as the official sponsor of Austria Ski Team. In addition to keeping the team in the brand’s performance training apparel, footwear and equipment, Under Armour signed two of the team’s top athletes — Marcel Hirscher and Julia Dujmovits — to individual sponsorship deals.
“Driving deeper growth in Germany and Austria is a pivotal component of our comprehensive international growth strategy,” said Charlie Maurath, president of Under Armour International, in a statement. “Through design, innovation and our Under Armour Connected Fitness platform we look forward to forging long-term relationships with athletes of every level in the region.”
Under Armour also signed tennis star Dustin Brown and Germany’s top-ranked male beach volleyball team of Jonathan Erdmann and Kay Matysik to its roster of sponsored athletes.
