Brazilian footwear brand Rider Sandals has found common ground with Honolulu-based artist Colleen Wilcox.
The label is teaming up with Wilcox for its first U.S. collaboration: a capsule collection consisting of two popular Rider women’s flip-flops — the CW Rio and CW Smoothie II — decorated with Wilcox’s colorful designs.
The CW Rio, a wedge style, features Wilcox’s artwork on the edge of the sole and comes in four versions with different strap colors. The CW Smoothie II, a slim flip-flop look, displays Wilcox’s floral print on the top of the Dry Eco Foam footbed. That style also is offered with four different strap colors.
Wilcox, whose acrylic paintings on canvas feature vibrant colors that depict island life, nature and the sea, has been a Rider brand ambassador since 2014. She said she partnered with the company because of its commitment to protecting the environment and because the sandals fit her own relaxed lifestyle.
“I love the idea of my artwork literally going along on the journey with Rider’s active, adventurous customers as they explore life,” Wilcox said in a statement.
Christina Barshel, marketing coordinator for Rider, also said in the statement, “Colleen’s active, outdoor beach lifestyle embodies the Rider vibe, and her colorful designs are a perfect addition to Rider’s most popular female styles.”
The sandals will retail as part of Rider’s spring ’16 collection, priced at $25 for the CW Rio and $30 for the CW Smoothie II style. They will be available at major sporting-goods chains and surf shops beginning in December 2015.
