Ads for Cristiano Ronaldo’s CR7 Footwear collection for spring ’15 have been released, showcasing the soccer-pro-turned-designer in a variety of cheeky poses. The photos, launched on the brand’s website, feature Ronaldo modeling a variety of shoe styles. The offering includes a lace-up oxford, a white low-top sneaker with brogue detailing and a modified boat shoe.
“Launching my own smart footwear collection is a dream come true,” said Ronaldo in a statement. “I’m very proud that our CR7 Footwear collection uses only the finest locally sourced materials, with designs hand-crafted in Portugal by a team of truly talented craftsmen.”
Ronaldo’s CR7 collection expanded into footwear earlier this year, adding to its line of men’s shirts and underwear. The footwear is produced in partnership with sourcing agency Portugal Footwear and sold through the brand’s e-commerce website.
Though the campaign takes advantage of Ronaldo’s star power — a smart marketing tactic — the images could have benefited from more artistic direction. (Is he dancing? Posing? We at FN are unsure.)
And in a saturated market for men’s casual footwear, the shoes fail to make a strong impact, though it’s still early days.
Ronaldo does appear to have his customers’ best interests in mind. “My feet are my working tool; therefore, I only wear the best,” he said. “I want to share that opportunity with others — I want them to shine in my shoes!”
