Asics may be known largely for its running shoes, but the brand is excelling in more sports than its running category as of late. Two of the Irvine, Calif.-based brand’s wrestlers won gold medals at the 2015 Wrestling World Championships in Las Vegas.
Jordan Burroughs, the No. 1 ranked men’s freestyle wrestler in the 74kg weight class, and Adeline Gray, who defeated her opening-round opponent in a 1:24, both won their third World Championship gold medals. Burroughs defeated Mongolia’s Unurbat Purevjav in the men’s freestyle and Gray defeated China’s Qian Zhou in the women’s freestyle to take home the gold.
“Asics is extremely proud of Jordan and Adeline and all they have accomplished,” said Kelly O’Rourke, athlete manager at Asics America Corporation, in a statement. “Their incredible focus, fortitude, and grace under pressure epitomize the ASICS mentality. They and all of the ASICS elite athletes who competed at the World Championships have earned tremendous respect for their hard work and dedication to the sport of wrestling.”
The brand debuted new two signature shoe models for Burroughs in July: the JB Elite V2.0 wrestling shoe (available in three colorways) and the JB Elite TR training shoe (available in two colorways). The shoes retail for $80 and $90, respectively.
