The MLB playoff picture is heating up, but one team that doesn’t have to worry about securing a spot is the Pittsburgh Pirates — they clinched a playoff berth Wednesday night with a win over the Colorado Rockies.
The Pirates are the second team to secure a playoff spot after their division rival, the St. Louis Cardinals, nabbed one on Saturday.
Pittsburgh is led by All-Star centerfielder Andrew McCutchen, who takes the field in various player’s-edition colorways of the Nike Swingman MVP 2 Mid Metal cleats. The shoes feature a synthetic leather upper with mesh for breathability, the brand’s Flywire for durability and a glove-like fit, a full-length Air unit that offers for padding and impact protection and a TPU plate outsole with nine metal spikes for traction.
McCutchen, a career .299 hitter, is batting .296 this season, with 22 home runs and 95 RBIs. The six-year veteran’s playoff averages are on par with his regular-season stats, batting .292 in the post-season.
The Pirates will look to improve on their recent playoff record, as the team’s last two appearances have ended early. In 2014, they lost to the eventual World Series champion San Francisco Giants in the Wild Card game, and they fell to the Cardinals in the National League Divisional Series.
