With the professional baseball season underway and the College World Series looming, German-based brand Adidas launched a new, lightweight cleat to the market, inspired by the series.
The Adizero Afterburner 2 will come in five colorways representing the teams the brand sponsors, with metallic gold accents to resemble the NCAA trophy. The cleats, collectively known as the Trophy Pack, will feature what Adidas is calling the lightest cleat in baseball, weighing in at 8.7 ounces.
The cleats will be available in June on Eastbay with a retail price tag of $120.
For the first time, Adidas is employing its Litestrike EVA midsole, in order to keep the cleats light. The cleats also feature a SprintFrame plate, the brand’s lightweight chassis support system that keeps the foot close to the ground.
The cleats will make their on-the-field debut during the College World Series Super Regionals. The College World Series begins June 13.
