With the Portland Trail Blazers sitting in the West’s fourth spot in the NBA playoff standings with just five regular season games left to play, Adidas unveiled another version of star guard Damian Lillard’s signature shoe, the D Lillard 1. But the shoe – called the Gauntlet – isn’t designed for the pro baller; instead, it’s for the young baller with pro-ball dreams.
The edition is designed for the players participating in Adidas’ premier high school events throughout the summer. It will make its debut April 10-12 at the Adidas Gauntlet Dallas, an event that will showcase the talents of more than 150 of the country’s top 15U, 16U and 17U teams. Teams will be competing for a chance to go to the Adidas Gauntlet Finale in Atlanta on July 10.
The Gauntlet boasts a metallic silver synthetic boot, with hints of black and gray, as well as a Techfit tongue and inner bootie. The shoe also features a translucent outsole and “adidas Gaunlet” printed on the sock liner.
Unfortunately for those interested in buying the sneaker, it’s a player-only edition and will not hit retail shelves.
