Spotted … Ellie Kemper lighting up New York in Twinkle Toes by Skechers. The star of Netflix’ newest series, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” from mastermind Tina Fey, sports the style in the pilot episode as Kimmy learns to live in the Big Apple after 15 years in an underground bunker.
Basically, the character is 29 years old now but feels more comfortable in the wardrobe of a middle-school kid.
For those who haven’t already binge-watched the show in one day, Kemper is joined by “30 Rock” favorite Jane Krakowski, who plays her wealthy employer. Also in the mix is Kimmy’s roommate, an aspiring Broadway star, played by Titus Burgess.
FN caught up with Skechers President Michael Greenberg to get the scoop on the brand’s role on the show.
1. What was your reaction to the Twinkle Toes spot?
“We love it because the show is receiving great reviews, and Ellie Kemper is fantastic in the starring role as Kimmy. She’s such a likeable character and very funny.”

2. Why is this good placement for Skechers?
“Kimmy is not a typical person you would see wearing our Twinkle Toes light-up shoes for kids, so it immediately grabs your attention.”
3. Are you a fan of the show?
“I enjoy Tina Fey’s humor from ’30 Rock,’ and Ellie was great on ‘The Office,’ so this is a winning combination. I started watching the show, and I think it’s great.”
4. What other TV shows do you watch?
“I really don’t watch a lot on TV besides the national news and ‘Mad Money’ on CNBC, but I’m looking forward to ‘One Big Happy’ because it stars the beautiful and talented English actress Kelly Brook, who also appears in our Skechers Memory Foam TV campaign that’s airing now. I watched ‘Community’ and ‘Parks & Recreation,’ and now the new season of ‘House of Cards.’ I also enjoy ‘Shark Tank.”‘
