Croatia-based sneaker brand Startas is making its move into the U.S. market.
The men’s and women’s brand—which produces its footwear in Vukovar—is offering its spring ’15 collection to U.S. customers for the first time, available now on its e-commerce website (with free shipping).
The spring ’15 collection, with prices starting at $65, features the brand’s core low-top sneaker silhouette in a variety of prints – from zigzags and stripes to geometric patterns. Midsoles come in a beige or white colorway, while all soles come in blue.
Originally designed for Yugoslavian table-tennis players in the 1970s, the sneakers are still handmade in the same Croatian factory the brand has used for almost 40 years.
“You can see how flexible and resilient Startas are by folding them and watching them bounce right back to their original shape,” said Robert Grgurev, Startas’ president, in a statement.
Though the brand’s production came to a halt in the 1990s following factory damage, it eventually re-launched its collection back in 2008. Now, it has its eye set on building up a U.S. customer base.
