The 2015 Victoria’s Secret Fashion show featured gorgeous angel wings, of course, but we were focused on the footwear, designed by Brian Atwood.
Where to begin? Atwood created an array of thigh-high boots to fit the show’s themes. Model Taylor Hill wore tight thigh-highs done in blue suede and printed with white stars to go with her patriotic look.
Another standout pair was the fur-embellished boots to fit the snow bunny theme. There was also a groovy pair of multicolored boots with long fringe that swayed perfectly with the model’s strut. A lace-up pair of boots was done in both camel colored suede and cheetah print.
In her runway debut, Gigi Hadid wore a butterfly ensemble topped off with a pair of feather embellished butterfly sandals. When Lily Aldridge walked the runway in the $2 million Fantasy Bra, she wore Atwood’s knee-high jeweled gladiator sandals. These came in a handful of bright colors as well as an ankle version.
Footwear News caught up with Atwood backstage as the models were being prepped in hair and makeup. He told us the creative process included lots of brainstorming.
“This is like the Super Bowl of fashion shows,” he said. “And I know these girls can walk on anything. I heard they made wings just because of the shoes. I was chatting with [Victoria’s Secret Creative Director] Sophia [Neophitou], and she said ‘Do you realize we made wings based on the shoes? We copied the boot design on the wings.’”
