In five short years, Instagram has become a favorite social media outlet, particularly in the fashion industry. Before Instagram, fashion followers often had to wait hours, days and even weeks to see photos of the latest runway shows in New York and Europe—now they’re accessible in seconds.
Editors and tastemakers sitting front row at fashion shows can show their followers the latest trends right away.
Instagram has become even more than a simple photo sharing app. It’s become an art form. Early on, little use was made of filters and few thought about how they could perfectly arrange a photo. Now a photo requires perfect planning before posting.
In the footwear industry, there is nary a designer who doesn’t make use of Instagram as both a valuable marketing tool and a way to let users in on their personal lives and design process. Instagram can also serve as a way to tease and release campaigns and make special announcements.
In honor of Instagram’s birthday, FN gathered some of our favorite shoe designers’ first Instagram photos. It’s safe to say we’ve come a long way. Happy birthday, Instagram.
