Giambattista Valli entered new territory with its fall ’15 show in Paris. The label, which typically espouses a delicate aesthetic, gunned for a decidedly more downtown customer this round, presenting its take on lace-up stiletto boots — fit for the uptown girl’s cooler, music-head sister.
Giambattista Valli’s knee-high stiletto boots were laced up the front, with the top of the foot and shin peeking through ever so slightly. The shoes were a nice contrast with the house’s more traditionally elegant ready-to-wear, which included long floral-print dresses with ruffle details and straight-cut shift dresses styled over trousers.
The vampy boots were a more youthful design for the luxury label, though the subtle suede finishing was still decidedly refined. While the experimentation could seem tame compared with edgier labels like Alexander Wang, who did a more extreme take on the lace-up boot, Valli’s were refreshing and impactful here, given the context.
It’s worth nothing that Givenchy did a very similar style last season, though its latex-like leather and curved heel was more fitting for Riccardo Tisci than Valli.
