With the holiday season fast approaching, brands and retailers have finished finalizing their collections and perhaps even more importantly, negotiating their exclusive offerings.
Enter Neiman Marcus. The famed department store is launching its newest initiative — Truly NM — “a curated collection of exclusive items developed specifically for Neiman Marcus in partnership with over 50 of the world’s top design houses,” Ana Maria Pimentel, Neiman Marcus’ fashion director for women’s accessories told FN.
For 2015, Neiman Marcus’ holiday shoe collection includes many standout styles exclusive to the store. From the classic Valentino Rockstud pump, which the brand is offering exclusively in Platino (an entirely gold color way) to a patent flecked Pigalle Follies Christian Louboutin heel, these are styles you’ll surely want to get your hands on.
After a long stint in magazine publishing, Pimental joined the department store in 2012. FN spoke exclusively with the fashion director about her fall ’15 buying strategy and most popular style predictions. Read on to see what she had to say.
What was your buying strategy for fall ’15? Were there certain trends you wanted to focus on?
As folkloric themes inspired the runways for fall, the shift to a chunkier heel was a big message for fall footwear. The pant is now wider or flared, the maxi and midi length hemline feels fresh and modern when anchored with a strong heel. We are fully embracing this trend at Neiman Marcus with an enticing assortment of chunky heels in boots from mid to over the knee, modern city sandals and sky high platforms to keep our ladies well heeled and current for the fall season.
Any styles and/or designers you were particularly excited about have exclusively at Neiman Marcus?
We are particularly enthusiastic about the items within our newest initiative Truly NM – a curated collection of exclusive items developed specifically for Neiman Marcus in partnership with over 50 of the world’s top design houses. In footwear, we are featuring an impressive line up of iconic shoes from our most coveted brands in heavenly incarnations you will only find in our stores and at NeimanMarcus.com. To name a few…the Manolo Blahnik Hangisi in a quintessential Neiman Marcus butterfly print will no doubt become a collector’s item. Christian Louboutin’s iconic Pigalle Follies pump will debut in a limited edition splatter paint print and Valentino’s Rockstud collection in gold for the very first time.
Which styles do you predict will be the most successful/popular with the Neiman Marcus customer?
The fall season brings our most discerning clients a plethora of newness and reason to buy. The chunky heel trend looks strong and is a great addition to her already extensive shoe wardrobe. The boot category is fresh in infinite animations of suede, leather, patchwork and fringe embellishments which continue strong. Ghillie lace ups, as seen on the runway at Gucci and Chloe are a fun way to update your wardrobe. Bordeaux reds, browns (sand, camel, cinnamon & chocolate), shades of gray and sleek black complete the season’s rich color palette.
How has Neiman Marcus’ footwear collection evolved since you took the reins?
I was fortunate enough to join the Neiman Marcus fashion office in 2012 as the Fashion Director for Women’s Accessories after 15 years in the editorial field (ELLE and Harper’s Bazaar, among others). In the past years, we have seen a steady growth of modernist designers who ten years ago where not necessarily in the shoe market at this capacity. Designers such as Givenchy, Celine, Balenciaga and Stella McCartney play an important role in the fashion footwear scene today. We have also embraced a newer crop of talent such as Aquazzura, Gianvito Rossi, Tabitha Simmons, Paul Andrew, Laurence Dacade, which along with the rest of our partners round out what we like to think is the perfect shoe matrix.
