Monique Lhuillier loves feeling powerful in heels. The designer said she prefers height over flats any day.
In February, the designer showcased a larger footwear collection down the New York Fashion Week runway: 23 styles. Her shoe looks retail from $595 to $1,100 and for resort, it’s all about pops of color.
“Designing for spring is fun because it is always vibrant. I love playing with color and different textures so you can expect the collection to be full of color – it’s happy and bright, but with an edge,” she told FN. “We have incorporated a lot of prints and embellishments as well as more daytime styles.”

Here, the designer dives in with FN 3.
1. How many pairs do you personally own?
“Approximately 80. Other favorites are Celine, Christian Louboutin, Chloe, Fendi, Saint Laurent, Aquazarra, Alaia, Givenchy, Nike and Converse.”
2. Heels or flats?
“Heels! I’m petite and appreciate the empowering feeling of wearing a high heel. It’s about the power and energy that is felt when putting on a high heel that is like no other.”

3. If you were a shoe, what shoe would you be?
“I would be a shoe with a lucite heel, as it has a modern day ‘Glass Slipper’ effect that I love.”
