The Stealth Wealth set have a new pair of luxury sneakers to quietly sport. Cashmere baron Brunello Cucinelli is releasing a limited-edition version of his classic Monili trainer for fall ’15. Dropping in September at Cucinelli’s network of branded boutiques, the women’s style combines virgin-wool cloth with strapping in the label’s signature chrome-beaded straps. The shoes will retail for $1,325.
Cucinelli hand-selected the laceup kick, long a staple of his collection, to be given a timely update.
“The sneaker was inspired by our iconic women’s runner, with an added twist,” the designer told Footwear News exclusively. “The introduction of Velcro straps with contrasting Monili chain embellishment is the perfect balance of sporty and elegant detailing,” he said, adding that offering the refurbished version only in his stores was a way of ensuring it’s covetable, but only for a select crowd. “It’s a great way for us to offer something special to our clients and a new way to add freshness to their Cucinelli footwear collection.”
It’s a well-timed move for the label, which is based and manufactures in Solomeo, Italy. The athleisure movement is still informing fashion, while consumers are increasingly on the hunt for elevated leisurewear that can go from the locker room to lunch to hopping on a flight. And if she’s wearing Cucinelli, it’s preferably her own plane.
