Yesterday, news broke that singer Pharrell Williams will be honored with a CFDA Fashion Icon award in June. The singer will join past recipients Rihanna, Johnny Depp, Lady Gaga and Kate Moss.
“If cool was a person, it would be Pharrell,” said Diane von Furstenberg, president of the CFDA, in a release. “Not just for his looks and sense of style, but for his kindness and openness. I cannot imagine anyone not being seduced by him.”
The announcement had us thinking about Pharrell’s signature sneaker style, which combines bold colorways with lively, eye-catching prints.
Of course, Pharrell has long been a force in the sneaker market. For the past few seasons, he has been creating his own versions of the Stan Smith for Adidas, adding unexpected touches to the style like polka-dot prints and neon-colored tennis fuzz.
In honor of the news, we scoured the spring sneaker market and found many creations reminiscent of Pharrell’s bold, unapologetic style.
Standouts include Balenciaga’s holography-treated sneakers, Burberry Prorsum’s squiggly-print pointed runners, and Saint Laurent’s metallic star-print high-tops.
