Luxury retailer Barneys New York, which launched its “Sole Series” project in July, has released a new, limited-edition run of Vans’ signature checkerboard slip-on.
The men’s style, which retail for $165, come in two colorways: white-and-black and blue-and-black, with strips of leather and suede bonded together for an updated woven effect.
“We did several rounds of samples to get the texture, thickness and color right,” said Chris Pepe, Barneys New York men’s footwear buyer. “A lot of work and craftsmanship went into it. The concept for these Vans was what sparked the whole Sole Series [project].”
The Sole Series project teams Barneys New York with footwear brands for exclusive collaboration styles. The first collection offered a luxe leather take on the classic Adidas Stan Smith sneaker.
