Madewell Recalls Women’s Sandals Due to Fall Hazard

New York-based Madewell Inc. is recalling 50,600 of pairs of women’s sandals — most of which have been sold in the U.S. and 300 of which were sold in Canada — due to a fall hazard.

According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recall involves all Madewell Sightseer sandals from the J.Crew owned-company’s spring 2015 collection.

The sandals were sold, from February 2015 to July 2015, in Madewell stores, online at madewell.com and at shopbop.com for between $60 and $80.

Sandals with the following 10 style numbers and names in all sizes are being recalled: (The style numbers are located on a sticker on the outsole of the shoes)

C5893 Sightseer T-Strap Toe-Loop Sandal; C0279 Sightseer Slide Sandal; C1105 Sightseer Crisscross Sandal

C0277 Sightseer T-Strap Thong Sandal in Metallic Colorblock; C0278 Sightseer Buckle Gladiator Sandal; C0276 Sightseer T-Strap Thong Sandal in Black Leather; C0275 Sightseer Knotted Slide Sandal

C5897 Sightseer Lace-Up Sandal; C6090 Sightseer Ankle-Wrap Sandal in Metallic Sand; C5895 Sightseer Ankle-Wrap Sandal in Shiny Silver

The CPSC advises consumers who have purchased any of the above listed/pictured shoes should immediately stop wearing them and contact Madewell to return them for a full refund.

Madewell, the CPSC said, received eight reports of metal shanks dislodging and breaking through the bottom of the outsole of the shoes, although no injuries have been reported.

The shoes were manufactured in Brazil, the CPSC said.
